What’s your name and role?
My name is Vicki, and I am a Level 2 Nursery Practitioner.
What fills your heart with happiness about your role?
The children make the role so enjoyable with all the love and happiness they give you. I absolutely love being able to teach the little ones and watch them grow during their time with us.
What encouraged you to re-train in childcare?
I worked in a school assisting during breakfast and lunch as well as in an after-school club. When my own children were young, Nicola and Laura, the owners of Monkey Puzzle Altrincham, encouraged me to train in childcare.
What did you do prior to childcare?
I worked in Retail Management, so a very different career path!
How were you supported by Monkey Puzzle when you started?
Monkey Puzzle provides opportunities to build strong foundations for a successful career via professional development, high-quality training packages, bespoke development programmes and apprenticeships. Monkey Puzzle encouraged me to take a Level 2 course and supported me throughout the entire thing.
What would you say to anyone thinking about starting in the early years sector later on in life?
My honest opinion is that it’s the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had! The joy in helping and teaching the children to grow – it’s so rewarding. My advice would be that you just go for it.
