What is your name and role?

My name is Alysha, and I am a Nursery Practitioner, who recently progressed from an Apprentice.

What fills your heart with happiness about your role?

I am able to watch the children learn and develop on a daily basis while continuously building bonds with them. It fills my heart with happiness to be able to see them progress, for example, recently a child with social educational needs made some amazing progression and seeing that take place is incredibly rewarding.

How did you get your career started?

My career with Monkey Puzzle started two years ago, in January 2020. I had just left my old apprenticeship as an accountant assistant as this wasn’t right for me and I wanted something new. I saw a job advert on Indeed for an apprenticeship at this Monkey Puzzle nursery. I had heard such great things from my manager and colleagues in my previous job as their children were enrolled, so I decided to apply. They had told me how great the nursery was and how lovely the staff were. I was accepted and on my first day, I knew the job was for me. I loved the atmosphere – both the staff and children were so welcoming.

What opportunities have you had or are you accessing with Monkey Puzzle to develop and progress your career?

I have access to Flick Learning, which is an online training site. This allows me to access any online courses at any time. I always like to extend my knowledge so this is incredibly useful.

Where would you see yourself progressing over the next 10 years?

I would love to enhance my knowledge by completing my Level 5 and SENCO training. In the near future, I can see myself as a Room Leader. When my Deputy Manager has to temporarily leave the room, I am able to step up, showcasing my skills – I feel as though I could become a Room Leader very soon. I would like to think that in 10 years, I could become a Nursery Manager, however, I know I have a lot to learn.
