Humpty Dumpty
At our nursery in Welling the children in Pre-School have been exploring the fairytale Humpty Dumpty! The adults had set up an amazing shape and pattern activity for the children to explore!
The children were tasked with patching Humpty Dumpty back up by using the shapes provided to stick over the missing shapes on his body! The children exercised their gross and fine motor skills by holding the paint brushes and also using their pincer grip to pick up the shapes.
The adults spoke to the children about the shapes and asked them what ones they were in need of. The children also explored some new shapes including ovals, semi circles and diamonds. We also encouraged our children to help each other, building their social skills and encouraging kind words and hands. The children were asked to pair up and work together to fix their Humpty Dumpty. They asked each other questions and also helped each other when they were stuck. This has built some amazing bonds between the children that have lasted all day.
The children also looked at patterns and were tasked with finishing them. The adults showed the children how they work and then it was the children turn. It was amazing to see their problem solving skills working and how intently they concentrated.
